Prayers as We Mourn the Queen
On this first Lord's Day of the time of mourning for Her Late Majesty, the Queen, here are some prayers to help us:
O Triune King, in the presence of whose Majesty even the most exalted kings and queens of this earth cast their crowns: as we give thanks for our late Queen, draw us, like her, to bow before Your glorious Throne, trusting wholly in the blood and righteousness of Christ our Saviour. Amen.
O Father of Glory, who has sent Your Son into this world to trample death by death and to offer Himself to us as the Resurrection and the Life: fix our eyes in this time of grief on the One who has risen victorious for us and fill our hearts with the sure hope of resurrection glory. Amen.
O High King of Heaven, by whom kings and queens do reign: bless, equip, govern, guide and save our King, lift his eyes to the cross and Your heavenly throne, and in Your tender mercy, comfort and console him, along with all the Royal Family, in the love of Christ, our Saviour. Amen.
O Sovereign God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who alone has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, who on this day spoke light out of darkness and triumphed over the darkness of death and sin in resurrection light: grant that in these dark days of mourning, the light of Your glorious gospel would shine forth and draw many to the Light of the World. Amen.
Also, these words from the Shorter Catechism may make for helpful meditation:
Q. 37. What benefits do believers receive from Christ at death?
A. The souls of believers are at their death made perfect in holiness, and do immediately pass into glory; and their bodies, being still united to Christ, do rest in their graves till the resurrection.
Q. 38. What benefits do believers receive from Christ at the resurrection?
A. At the resurrection, believers, being raised up in glory, shall be openly acknowledged and acquitted in the day of judgment, and made perfectly blessed in the full enjoying of God to all eternity.
