Part of the Family: The Lord's Prayer

( Click here to watch on YouTube .) The fourth video in the series is here! We've seen our sin through the Ten Commandments , we've seen the Good News of who our God is and what He's done for us and for our salvation in the Creed , and we've seen through the Sacraments about how in salvation we are united to Jesus, so that we are in Him and He is in us . Now this week, it's time to look at what it means to be united to Jesus. In Christ, we are part of His family, with His Father as our Father. And so, Jesus gives us this gift of the Lord's Prayer, so that we can join with Him in praying to our heavenly Father. If you want to know about the videos as soon as they're released, then subscribe to the YouTube channel !

And in His Temple Everyone Says: Glory!

"Glory!" is the cry in the Temple of the Lord (Psalm 29:9). But how is the Lord's glory seen in His Temple? 1. In the temple, the Glory of the Lord is seen in the blood of the sacrifice, the forgiveness of sins, and the presence of the Lord in the Holy of Holies (Lev. 9:23; 2 Chron. 7:1). 2. In the temple, the Glory of the Lord's presence is only seen through the blood of the sacrifice (Lev. 16:2-3). 3. In the temple, the Glory of the Lord is seen in the High Priest bearing the names of God's people over his heart when he goes into the holy place of the Lord's presence (Exodus 28:29). 4. The glory of the names of God's people carried over the heart of the High Priest is only brought into the glory of the Lord's Presence through the glory of the blood shed for the glorious forgiveness of sins (Lev. 16:15-16). 5. Therefore, the glory of the Lord in the temple of the Lord cannot be seen apart from the sacrificial blood.  6. T

Us in Jesus, Jesus in Us: The Sacraments

( Click here to watch on YouTube .) The third of the mini-catechism videos has arrived. This week we're thinking about the sacraments and how salvation in Jesus is up close and personal. If you haven't seen the other videos in the series, you can find them here. We've already looked at how God uses His law in the Ten Commandments to show us the truth about ourselves and our sin, and our need for salvation. Then we saw from the Apostles' Creed the Good News of who our God is and what He has done for us and for our salvation. Next week we'll be thinking about the Lord's Prayer, and then finally the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. If you like the videos, then please "like" them (and even comment if you feel like it) on YouTube (as the more interactions a video gets on YouTube, the easier it is for other people to stumble across and find). You can also subscribe to the YouTube channel (and that way you'll know about new videos as soon as they&#

Pentecostals and the Creed

What’s the relationship between Pentecostals and the Creed? Many people in Pentecostal churches have never heard the Creed, and some are even suspicious of it. The Creed, some people think, sounds like something Catholic, and so maybe a bit suspect. Or, others think, it sounds old-fashioned and irrelevant for a contemporary missional movement, and so maybe don’t give it a second thought. Yet, although that may be how some people think about the Creed, that’s probably got much more to do with the fact that the Creed is rarely mentioned or known among large sectors of Pentecostalism, than to do with any particularly Pentecostal attitude to the Creed. It’s true that most Pentecostal denominations have not adopted the historic Creeds of the Church as statements of faith. But that does not mean they don’t hold to the Creeds as statements of faith. How can that be? Well, in the Apostolic Church, for example, the three historic Creeds of the Church (the Three Ecumenical Creeds), weren’

Good News: The Creed

( Click here to watch on YouTube .) I promise, I haven't exchanged writing for videos! Some written posts will be coming soon. But this week's video just happened to get here sooner. Having seen last week how God uses His law to reveal our sin , this time we're thinking about the solution to our problem. And that Good News is summed up in the Apostles' Creed. (If you subscribe by email, I'm sorry I didn't realise last week that the videos don't seem to embed in the emails, so, alas, you either need to click through to the blog or follow the YouTube link to see them. Sorry about that!)

The Truth About Us: The Ten Commandments

Over the next five weeks, I've got five videos to share with you looking at some of the basics of the Christian faith. Today's video shows how the Ten Commandments function as God's Mirror to show us TheTruth About Ourselves , as well as giving us a Window and a Promise. The upcoming videos look at the Good News in the Apostles' Creed, how the Sacraments show us the truth of Us in Jesus and Jesus in Us , how praying the Lord's Prayer is all about being Part of the Family , and the Good Gift of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. It's a sort of mini video catechism, so I hope it'll be of some use. If you like, you can subscribe to my Youtube channel to get them there.
