Do you know the Baby in the Manger?

Today is the Lord’s Day and today is Christmas Day! So today let me just leave you with a short meditation on the birth of Jesus and our new birth:

The reason Christ wanted to be born of a virgin was so that through Him we might be born of God (John 1:13); so that He might be born in us and so that we might obtain His likeness (Gal. 4:19). However, where this spiritual rebirth has been established, there also is to be found the zeal for true godliness (1 John 5:4). ‘Everything that is born of God overcomes the world’, that is, ‘the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and pride-filled living’ (1 John 2:16). Where there is no such overcoming of the world, there also this rebirth has no status. Where there is no rebirth, there the bodily birth of Christ is of no benefit to such a person.
(Johann Gerhard, Schola Pietatis Vol. 1, p.71)

Is today merely a day of remembering that a baby was born a long time ago in Bethlehem, or have you been born again through His birth for you? If not, today can be the day! He was born for your salvation, died for your sins, and rose again to give you eternal life. Call out to Jesus to save you from your sins, and He will; He’ll lift you out of the death of sin and give you new life in Him.

O Holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to me I pray.
Cast out my sin and enter in;
Be born in me today.
O come to me, abide with me,
My Lord, Immanuel.

The birth of Jesus isn’t just something to be remembered. It’s a powerful birth with a great benefit for you. So come to Jesus and know the blessing of the new birth in Him.
